What can a jobless mechanical engineering fresher in India do to get hired?

1. I'm a 2013 pass out and worked 3 months in a Machine tool company. The learning curve and working atmosphere disappointed me hence I quit.

2. I'm equipped with good knowledge of catia and ansys.

Please suggest me exams which I can write to further my chances of gaining employment in private sector. (PSUs I'm applying as and when they make a call for)

I'm mostly interested in CAD/ CAE so suggestions on good colleges which offer those courses are welcome

If you are interested in further studies:
1. Apply to IITs if your GATE score is good
2. Write GRE+TOEFL/equivalent and seek out some good colleges abroad

If you are looking for work experience for increasing your employability in Mechanical Engineering field:
1. Try interning for IIT Profs., they hire freshers as their research assistant -don't expect good pay, but surely you'll get to do some original research work. IIT B is a good place to start with - they are still hiring
2. Apply for internships in private sector - some of the leading companies have internship programs... who knows they might even hire you full time!
3. Try freelancing - websites like LinkedIn, Freelance, etc has wealth of projects to work on and get paid

If you sole intention is to get hired:
1. Upload/update your resume on every job portal you know including LinkedIn
2. Upload your resume directly on the company website
3. Approach independent HR consultants - again upload your resume on their websites
4. Follow-up on job applications if required
5. Do some industry oriented certifications - GDTP(Y14.5) by AIAG, APQP/PPAP by AIAG, Statistical Process Control by AIAG, Reliability Engineer Certification by ASQ, Program Management by PMI, Six Sigma (DFSS) by ASQ, etc.
6. Take up some independent research work/projects/marketable ideas so as to make up for employment gap on your resume

Note: CAD/CAE are good only to get entry into the field - don't get obsessed with it. Once you are in the industry, expertise in CAD/CAE will not help much unless you are directly involved in research work for the organisation. A very limited number of companies are involved in actual research/design work in India - almost all CAD/CAE work gets outsourced to India by the MNCs. Remember working on CAD is not design. If you are really interested in CAE - go for master/Phd and then try entering industry as a research Engineer

For most people, aiming for a higher position at once is the key to job search success. However, for some people who know that in order to succeed in the job market, they have to, literally, start from scratch. This means that people who want to grow positively in the working world; they have to learn the basics and fundamental principles of working, how it is to love the work most people do, and how to establish a good working relationship with his or her colleagues.

In order to enjoy all of these, one must submit Yourself to an entry-level type of job. This refers to a job that requires minimal skills and expertise with no experience requirement needed. Because of its nature, entry-level Mechanical Engineer jobs are characterized by low salary, require physical work, and sometimes need field work.

Most often than not, people who are into entry-level Mechanical Engineer jobs have very low package. What’s more, most entry-level Mechanical Engineering jobs are on a part-time basis.Contrary to popular belief, entry-level jobs should not be ignored. What people do not realize is that entry-level jobs offer more than just low wages. These jobs are the foundation of all other positions available in the job market.

In most cases, people who start to work on higher positions right after they graduate from college are easily bored from their work. What is even worse, there is no room available for personal growth and career advancement.

Entry-level Mechanical Engineering Jobs are the stepping-stone to success in careers. So, for people who wish to grow and be promoted to a higher position, here are some tips that they can use:

1. Workers who are in the entry-level Mechanical Engineer position should show enthusiasm, efficiency, caring, and love for his work.

2. They should master their skills and hone their craft.

3. They should be an expert on customer service.

4. They should know how to impress a customer who happens to be seeking an employee who knows optimum customer service.

These are just a few of the qualities that must be employed by an entry-level worker in order to advance to a higher position. And once he reaches the top, he knows that work is definitely something worth valuing for.

Mechanical Engineering has the maximum job opportunities among other Engineering fields . The maximum of the vacancies are from fabrication field with opportunities to grow professionally and in career.

The jobs in field of Design are fewer .

Look at options in QAQC field which can give better opportunities in India as well as in middle east for working in quality department of all the core Industrial sectors

The local private Industries where initial opportunities are more for freshers are unable to give opportunities to freshers due to lack of job skills and not ready to use . It would be good to plan some Industry Oriented / Job Oriented skills in core field which would give better prospects to both the Company and Candidate.

While selecting your Certified courses, ensure that you are selecting the right institute having professionally qualifications and experiance. The Training company should be able to give sufficient Industry exposure and have good networking with Industry

As per my knowledge now a days companies are hiring most experienced candidates. It is quite difficult to get a job in fresher level but some possibilities are there to have an entry level job. Either you should have certified from reputed colleges like IIT or you should have part time experience on the field or you have to qualify exams like Joint Employ-ability Test. You can get these certification from Leaderspro, Amcat and Elitmus. These 3 are performing well now. It may easy for you to have an opportunity to get an entry leveling

A similar scenario was faced by me when I had passed out 2 years ago. I had learnt Solidworks ,Catia & Ansys and was very eager to use them in the industry and start a career in the same. I applied to different companies but faced severe rejection due to lack of industrial experience.

So here's what I did-

I searched on the internet on ways to use my existing skills  & read about 3D printing!! That was the Eureka moment for me.

I made a list of the startups involved in that technology & started making 3D models as part of my portfolio to show them my work online on GrabCad and other platforms.

To my surprise, in the second week itself I was called for an interview (it was a small startup) & got selected in an hour.

I had the opportunity to provide solutions for various clients and was the design head of the company in just 6 months.

I understood the problems faced by clients and how to use the technology effectively to solve them.

I am now a Technology & Innovation Lead in another 3D printing company (which is a much bigger one) and am handling various clients across the globe belonging to different fields of science.

I have even started my own startup company to serve the clients who require smaller services.

As a point of verdict, I would just say that if you BELIEVE that you are really passionate about something and desire to work in the same technology then NOTHING can stop you !!

Hope it helped :)
